STUDENT
STUDY MATERIALS
(6-13)

Below are the Amazon links to the Modern Hebrew Course by Nili Ziv (BHBH). The lessons are suitable for children between the ages of 6 to 13. You can start learning Hebrew with your little ones even before they learn to read. Just read the stories and the words to them and ask them to repeat them out loud. The course has lots of nice rhymes, good humor, and songs. Book #1 is centered around the Jewish holidays. Book #2 has adapted stories from Midrash in it. The CD has songs from book #1.

FORM DRAWING

Form Drawing is useful for development of penmanship in training the hand to create various shapes and forms.  It can serve as a pre-writing course as well as help children develop a sense of aesthetics and good taste in color combinations.  Form Drawing Books are suitable for children between 6 to 12.

Stockmar crayons – both blocks and sticks – are of superb quality and will last you for a long time. Children can use them in their form drawing lessons.

Sculpting is another activity essential for children’s fine motor skills.

Bees’ wax is an excellent material for sculpting.  The rectangular shaped bees wax plates have heavenly scent and can be modeled by little hands by warming them up first with the body heat. The wax becomes quite soft after a few minutes of playing with it. Don’t try to do any sculpting in the outdoors cold weather.

Wooden Peg Dolls can be used for Torah stories and imaginative play.

WATERCOLOR PAINTING:

Science and History materials can be supplemented with the following books:

For music classes at Elementary School, we recommend a pentatonic flute.  Flute was the instrument of David Hamelech as a boy when he would watch the sheep graze the green grass of he fields of Israel.  This instrument is preferable for children of young age in comparison to others (piano, harmonica, etc.), because through playing it, young children can learn to perceive subtlety of sound. Playing flute also helps young students body coordination, improves their fine motor skills, and teaches them to learn regulate their breathing patterns, which is so important for growing lungs as well as stress relief.  For more benefits of playing a recorder, click here
